Charles was in total admiration of Pale Male, "His Majesty," as he called him.  He loved Pale Male's beauty, his independence, his freedom, and the way he turned Central Park as his own magic kingdom.  People loved Charles for exactly the same reasons.

There is no doubt that Charles cast a spell all his own.  He was the Gandalf of the hawk bench.  He welcomed billionaires and the homeless alike, speaking to children, dogs, reporters, policemen, and celebrities with the same kindness and smile.  And then he would share with you everything he'd seen or learned that day.

Charles spent a decade photographing and writing not only about the life of His Highness but also about all the wild visitors and residents in the park.  We all  learned so much by seeing them through his eyes.
